ABOUT ME!
Hi! I’m Tina!
I have been a professional school counselor for 16 years. I obtained a Master’s Degree in Counselor Education from McDaniel College in 2008 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science with a minor in Psychology from York College of Pennsylvania in 2005.
I have extensive experience working with caregivers in facilitating positive behavior changes in children and young adults. I believe that when addressing a young individual’s social and emotional needs, external factors must be examined. It is the responsibility of adults to ensure children are set up for success by providing structure, consistency, reinforcement, and limit setting while allowing space for mistakes and natural consequences.
“When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.” -Alexander Den Heijer
I am knowledgeable in supporting students and families in school related areas, such as bullying, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, school avoidance, social skills, the special education process, functional behavioral assessments, behavioral intervention plans, section 504 plans and eligibility. I enjoy using data as a way of quantifying behavior change and tracking progress over time.
I currently hold a Pupil Personnel Worker Certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education, and have taken several post graduate courses geared at supporting children having experienced trauma. I was a collaborator for the National Training Institute School Based Mental Health Professionals Training, adapted from the National Adoption Competency Mental Health Training Initiative (NTI) through the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.) and currently serve as one of the school based advisors.
I look forward to working together!
Tina Millard, LGPC.
