ABOUT ME!

Hello, I am Erin Spoales.

I am a licensed graduate counselor (LGPC), a nationally certified counselor (NBCC), and a national board-certified school counselor (NBCT). I have worked in the school system as a secondary education teacher and school counselor for 24 years.

I hold a B.S. degree in Secondary Education from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Masters degree in School Counseling from Johns Hopkins University.

“I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow” ~ Maya Angelou

My experience as a teacher and professional school counselor allows for an increased understanding of school-related challenges and needs, such as ADHD, emotional and behavioral difficulties, stress, anxiety, emotional regulation, social and friendship skills, self-esteem, nutrition, and body image, grief and loss, divorce and family changes and confidence building. Helping children understand and accept themselves is the first step to making positive changes.

My passion for counseling is to help clients develop whole-body wellness by understanding and learning how to care for our unique bodies and minds. I provide support to help clients build upon strengths and create a positive and forward vision of their best selves. I foster an authentic and nurturing therapeutic environment by utilizing an eclectic and multi-modal approach of strength-based, client-centered, narrative, and solution-focused therapies. Aspects of play therapy, games, bibliotherapy, and developmentally appropriate hands-on learning are found in my counseling sessions. My clients will always be an active participant in their therapeutic goals. Empowering clients helps them take ownership of the positive changes ahead.

Looking forward to meeting you.
